The swamp is a 2-hour drive from Riga to the Salaca River near the Estonian border. Pirtsmeza swamp is in the nature reserve “Ziemeļu Mires”. Suitable for active hiking, here’s the right place to test your courage. During the hike you will be able to see the world of moss, small pine trees, deep pools and smell wild rosemary. The trail is not marked in nature and is not intended for walking without a “Bog-shoeing” guide.
Trekking boots with waterproof membrane or rubber boots are required.
Features and amenities
Moderate hiking is usually suitable for beginners who want a little challenge. There will be some obstacles in the area, such as fallen trees or wrecks. The route is usually 4-7 km long. Suitable for older people with active lifestyle and children aged 8-10 years.
