Overview
It is hard to believe that when you wade on the swinging surface of the marsh, there is a layer of peat under your feet six meters thick, and even pines that have not reached human height have already crossed the threshold of hundreds of years. Suitable for active hiking, here’s the right place to test your courage. During the hike you will be able to see the world of moss, small pine trees, deep pools and the smell of wild rosemary. Bog is an important nesting and residence place of birds – cranes, herring gulls, mew gulls. Only 10 km from the mire lies the Slītere lighthouse and the ancient sea shore.
The trail is not marked in nature and is not intended for walking without a “Bog-shoeing” guide.
Trekking boots with waterproof membrane or rubber boots are required.
